Palette Knife Workshop with Leslie Saeta

Last week I spent 2 days in Pasadena at a workshop learning how to use palette knifes….and that’s just what we did, no brushes allowed. I loved it, after I got over trying to put down that perfect stroke, I decided I was just going to play, and have some fun! I loved the thickness of the paint, the way the colors mixed, and the best tip: wipe the knife after every stroke. The paintings were beautiful, and I love abstract scenes, so this was so up my alley.
Leslie Saeta, who taught the workshop, is a palette knife artist, check out her website www.saetastudio.com, pretty amazing! I loved her control of the palette knife, and couldn’t have asked for a more generous artist. She divulged so many tips, from where she gets her ideas, note cards she creates from her paintings, and just how to manipulate those darn palette knifes (RGM # 5, 20, and 33)….Thanks Leslie, not only can you cook (she had all 10 of us over for a gourmet meal in her beautiful home…what a gracious hostess, Leslie your crab cakes where to die for) and you can paint! Great workshop, I’ll be booking another one with her that’s for sure!
So now that I know how to start a palette knife painting, I’m going to practice. I’m leaving next week for a week workshop with Robert Burridge in the Bahamas…cannot wait….and you can rest assured I’m taking those 3 palette knifes. I’ll post the paintings, along with other great tips on painting in the Bahamas.
So till then, keep on painting…..

collective effort of all 10 workshop participants. I finished it off with my painterly touches

I loved using the palette knife on this painting....the paint is thick & juicy!

  1. Melanie,
Thank you so much for taking the time to join me for the workshop. It was so much fun … and it was wonderful to have your artistic talent, humor and great input in the class. Your paintings look beautiful and I am thrilled that you had a great time. Let’s get together soon, ok?

  2. I just wanted to construct a simple comment so as to appreciate you for these pleasant guides you are writing on this site. My particularly long internet research has at the end been rewarded with reasonable facts to share with my family. I ‘d claim that most of us readers are very fortunate to live in a perfect place with very many outstanding people with insightful pointers. I feel truly privileged to have come across the web page and look forward to really more fabulous times reading here. Thanks a lot again for a lot of things.
